PALLADIUM X ASOS

As we gear up for autumn in the city, I’m packing away my rainbow selection of espadrilles to make way for an ever growing boot collection. Whilst I struggle to resist the allure of velvet at this time of year, the reality is that 80% of the time it's not practical. For real life, it's the indestructible, hardy footwear that I’m reaching for daily – the boots for stomping around town in and the ones for walking in the rain; the ones to wear with jeans as well as the ones for dresses, and of course the ones for dog-walking (catch my Insta Stories and feed for mini vids of Prince William himself making an appearance on our Kensington Gardens walk this morning – thank goodness for the fancy footwear).

As it turns out, I’ve tracked down a pair that cover all bases. Last week I joined forces with a gang of models, singers and influencers to unveil and road-test the Palladium AW17 collection launching on ASOS at Palm Vaults in Hackney. The utilitarian lace-up boot is not an alien concept to me – I’ve long been flying the flag, investing in a black pair three years ago during the New York Snowmageddon. They’ve since become something of a wardrobe punchline, best served with tomboy denim but crucially balanced with a feminine twist – in this instance turned up jeans and a ladylike bag. (Equally keen on the idea of a floral dress teamed with an oversized aviator jacket). Opposites attract after all.

And call me clichéd, but I have an uncontrollable urge to gravitate towards anything and everything burgundy at this time of year, as well as its best friends mustard and forest green. It's a refreshing switch up from the usual black. So it was love at first sight with these (pictured) which will be leaf-crunching with me throughout autumn and beyond. The sole-searching is over.
