WRITTEN IN THE STARS

There's only one time of year where every night can be treated like a Friday. And, as I head to a 500-strong Christmas party at the Tower of London this evening (yes, Monday), I thought it would be appropriate timing to share this post on festive party dressing. And this time there's no velvet in sight.

As something of a down dresser since my days in Vogue House, it's nice to have an excuse to spruce up from time to time. Especially when the odd work-from-home day may even see me reaching for trackie bums/leggings, messy bun on top of my head (getting-down-to-business-hair), sitting cross-legged on a chair at the kitchen table.

Enter this strokably soft faux fur jacket by Hush which has already accompanied me to one of two Christmas weddings, and I'll be reaching for it again as I head over to The City this evening. Channelling Cookie Monster/Big Bird/a yeti/all of the above wouldn't be an option I'd usually go in for, but my uncharacteristic draw to this forest-green dream has made it even more exciting to wear – and it's looking like it's going to be a wardrobe mainstay that goes with virtually anything.

In this case, I've teamed it with this slinky Matthew Williamson jumpsuit – silk, star-spangled, beautifully cut, vulnerable spaghetti straps and slightly risqué, what more could you want? – and a chain-strap bag. And that's a good enough incentive for me to head out after dark.

Jumpsuit | Matthew Williamson
