BACKSTAGE AT JULIEN MACDONALD | LFW

In the few hours leading up to the Julien Macdonald show I was lucky enough to be right in the thick of the backstage action thanks to my friends at Vita Coco, show sponsors, who invited me along.

And, as you'd expect, life behind-the-scenes is fast. Seamstresses making last minute stitch amends, backstagers ducking so as not to get clobbered by a wayward clothes rail or scissors, pacey team talks, steamers puffing away and a Justin Bieber soundtrack blaring out (a couple of the male models in particular were hot on the words). But, amongst the many faces that filled the basement arches of One Mayfair, few expressions showed stress. Perhaps because the head honcho himself breezed happily between makeup, hair and styling stations with an excited grin fixed on his face. Devil Wears Prada vibes, this was not.

The show saw models including Grace Bol take to the catwalk amidst a production of epic proportions – think supersonic laser lighting and a ground-vibrating DJ set. Signature looks included heavily embellished dresses in structured silhouettes featuring cut-out details, fringing and show-stopping trains. And, after months of getting my eye in with bridal appointments, I could barely contain my excitement on discovering the show's final look was a wedding dress (above).

With a start this epic we knew we were in for a treat (above), before the show got underway...

Thank you for having me Vita Coco.
