PARKA LIFE

They say you never regret the big purchases, and a hardy winter coat is one of those all-important investments. I've had duvet coats before, but none have quite provided that crucial protective barrier once proper harsh coldness strikes. So far so good with this parka from Lee, which has already become something of a faithful companion when I’m leaving the house. The robust, utilitarian vibe nods to its army roots and its distinctive, puffy silhouette a definite reminder of the 90s (and Park Lifer Damon Albarn). Amongst the sturdy, masculine lines, its faux fur-trimmed hood softens it all and has proved an effective wind break through extreme El Nino moments and recent storms strong enough to have been worthy of names (Barney? Abigail?)

Equally ok to dress up, it makes stepping out into those dark, mid-winter evenings (the ones where you’d happily batten down the hatches from 5pm onwards and watch Strictly and X Factor) that little bit easier. But I’ll be waiting until January and February – and maybe even the ski slopes – to judge whether it will pass the true coldness test.
