YOGA (1,016 FEET) IN THE SKY

To say I had my head in the clouds on Saturday morning was true in more ways than one. About a month ago a very exciting email pinged into my inbox, inviting me to join Team Vita Coco for an early morning yoga class, due to take place in The View from The Shard (the highest point accessible in a building in Europe). Along with a handful of early rising yogis, I Ubered it over to London Bridge in preparation to bend, balance and flex in a sky-high stretchathon.

With a flutter of holiday-esque excitement (nothing beats being a tourist in your own city) we sped up 69 floors to The Shard’s pinnacle save one floor – an experience akin to visiting the Rockefeller in NYC this January. Here, floor-to-ceiling glass windows meant we were able to drink in soaring cityscapes, peppered with glistening rooftops and toy-sized Walkie Talkie, Cheese Grater and Gherkin, framed by a blanket of cloudless blue overhead.

We headed over to a rather spoiling, best-seats-in-the-house set of ‘Reserved’ mats, with our instructor directly in front of us, and gawping city vistas to our right. Yogasphere head honcho Mandy guided us through a flow class punctuated with detoxing twists and warriors, finishing with deep, long pigeon poses.

After an hour of (almost) total focus (it’s hard to maintain concentration when St Paul’s catches your eye while descending into standing splits) and feeling fully zenned, there was time to scoot up to the pop-up summer garden on the open-top 70th floor for a girly natter before being released back into the real world.

Thank you to Vita Coco for ensuring I was fully zenned last weekend.
